Scenograher Cecilia Toklum is the face behind the exclusive Danish shoe brand Toklum. Film and theater still inspire her shoe collections, in which the influence from Holywood glamour and film noir is easily seen. Also beautiful handwork such as draped fabric and material mix characterize her sophisticated design.
Since Balmain showed their ripped rock chic jeans for the Spring 09 collection (probably the most photographed jeans this season), it seams as every brand is doing these 80s inspired ruined jeans. In the hunt for the perfect pair, which should look natural used and not too fake pre-used, I found these genius ones from the French brand A.P.C. The company is expanding its jeans line by a new version called Butler Worn Out Series. The name descripes the true process of making the jeans. Instead of the traditional use of sandpaper and washing techniques, real humans were asked to wear the jeans in order to create a one-of-a-kind original used design. As an extra bonus each single pair carries the initials of the last person who wore them! The perfect pair of jeans full of history – Imagine they would be able to talk…

Super cool icy blond Agyness Deyn posing for UK magazine POP. Art or fashion??
In the creative Jægersborggade in Nørrebro you find a lot of small nice shops, galleries etc. One of my favorites is CMYK kld – a small nice decorated art shop and gallery with collections from around 100 different artists. The concept is founded by Maya Langeland, who has a deep passion for the gallery. In her beautiful universe you can find books, posters, small installations etc. at extremely reasonable prices – she proves that art does not necessarily have to cost a fortune. An example is the print factory which is a big collection of small artworks (see picture) at DKK 75/10 euros. There are so many small items in the shop which makes you keep finding interesting works. The shop has no official website so far, but a fan club in facebook called cmyk kld. When you are in the area you should not miss the ‘coffee collective‘ coffee shop – probably the best coffee I have had in Copenhagen and as a bonus it is the first fair trade coffee shop in Cph!
Name the pet is from Stockholm, but more information about the blond girl and her band is hard to find, however, I like the electro pop beats in this funny, very simpel but ‘makes me feel like dancing’ song! Listen to Get on the Bus here.
Liselotte Watkins‘ art nouveau illustration style is gorgeous and cool at the same time. The Swedish illustrator and artist has worked as a fashion illustrator since she finished her education in the late 1990’s at the Art institute in Dallas. Her illustrations have been published in magazines as Vogue (UK,USA, Japan, Italy), Elle (USA, UK, France), Glamour (USA, France) and she has customers as Barneys, H&M, Miu Miu, MAC cosmetics etc. About her drawing technique, Liselotte says, “I make an outline on transparent paper with a special kind of pen that I order by the box load from Japan. The coloring is done in Photoshop.” I would love to have lessons with her!!!
There is definitely one important exhibition I missed this year! The Martin Margiela exhibition at the MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerp. The Belgian designer, one of the Antwerp 6, with the cool but understated branding is celebrating the brand’s 20th anniversary in October. His trademark, the four heavy stitches attaching the label inside of the garment has been copied by many, however it is still the signature for the mysterious and extremely conceptual brand Maison Martin Margiela. For those beside from me, who missed this great event, I can highly recommend a visit in one of his shops, the white universes in which every little detail plays an important role!
BØGELUND-JENSEN COPENHAGEN AW/09
“When I have created something, it will be clean, serene and simple to look at.” This quote comes from Signe Bøgelund-Jensen who founded her own brand Atelier Bøgelund-Jensen in 2006. Signe’s style is feminine, sexy, elegant and very played down. The shape of the woman is in focus which means that the styles always flatter the body and the personality of the woman. Signe used to work in the John Galliano studio in Paris where she developed ideas and techniques for the Dior Haute Couture. Her eyes for details and beautiful techniques is very visible in her own collections as well, however you might need to get closer – as the style is very simple and played down. Signe and I crossed our ways a couple of years ago and worked together in a short period – but I still remember and admire her unique creativity and perfectionism!
Even without having an album out, the eccentric folk-art pop band Florence and the Machine is predicted to be a huge succes this year. This year they won the Critics’ Choice award – Brit Awards’ new nomination which is only given to a bands that have not sent out their debut album yet. Recently the band joined quite good company in the NME Awards Tour together with Glasvegas,Friendly Fires and White Lies.
In front is the charismatic Florence Welch who is an amazing performer and moreover she is a fabulous writer – her lyrics are not the most realistic but crazy fantasy stories. While spreading out her intense voice she is hitting the big drum or jumping energic around on the stage. She is absolutely one to watch!

The Year of Coco Chanel
The best present I ever got was an original coco chanel fashion illustration. I have had it for several years now and I still love it and it keeps reminding me of this pioneering french queen of fashion. The latest issue of French vogue is a tribute to Coco Chanel and the 22nd of April is the French premiere date of the Coco Avant Chanel movie. The first trailer has just arrived – a sneak preview only in French which makes it even more original. The main characters in the movie are Audrey Tautou (the fabulous Amelie from Montmartre) and Allesandro Nivola. I am quite sure this will be the fashion movie of 2009 – showing fabulous costumes, beautiful scenes and charismatic characters. I will hereby dedicate the year to the never ending inspiration source Chanel as well! This is visible in the Eda Mae AW/09 collection, which also contains items and looks inspired by this wonderful universe.
