Pick me up for camping

Posted in Art, Fashion, Photography by stylecouch on October 31, 2009

I don’t know how long I have not been thinking on camping before I saw this video – and I need be honest I also was not believing that camping have something to do with design. I am also not sure if I this let me gain my heart for camping, but the Belgium architect Axel Enthoven, who has won more than 25 international awards in 8 different countries, convinced me to rethink my prejudice. Inspired by the Sydney Opera House he designed a trendy caravan for modern nomads that presents a luxury vacation.

Time has changed!

Posted in Art, Fashion, Fun, Graphic design by stylecouch on October 30, 2009

And this also is reflected in the artwork of the US illustrator Drew Beam. That Drew is a practitioner becomes clear when you read his customer list. When you enter his webpage, you will stumble on the small sentence: ‘All I want to do is make you laugh. Hope you enjoy’ – Yes Drew, I enjoyed your work!

More than just Steampunk

Posted in Art, Fashion, Fun, Photography by stylecouch on October 29, 2009

Even that Jules Verne and H.-G. Wells do not stands for Steampunk, it looks that they provide the prototype for it and it seems that railways, steam machines, computers and spaceships in combination with cartoons are fascinating the French sculptor Stephane Halleux in his art work. I just can give you an impression on his work, but take your time and visit his webpage – it is worth every second you spend there.

Posted in Uncategorized by stylecouch on October 29, 2009

This must be the optimal pet for travelling people – no matter if you prefer a terrier or a schnauser , UK based Robert Bratford fulfills your wish with these crazy dogs made of recycle toys and other colourful bits and pieces of plastic. The dogs are life-size or even bigger sometimes… The dogs can be seen live in AAF Amsterdam from today and Royal Academy in London from  1st December.

Women can not deal with roadmaps? You are so yesterday!

Posted in Art, Fashion, Graphic design, Photography by stylecouch on October 28, 2009

The US artist Shannon Rankin is the best example – and I need to say sorry to everybody who expected a small post about clichés here. Shannon created amazing artwork out of roadmaps and unfortunately a few more than I am showing here – so click on her webpage to see more.

COOL FACE OF TOMORROW

Posted in Uncategorized by stylecouch on October 28, 2009

It must be time for new faces now – cooler, more edgy and tough girls instead of the super-beauty-babe look which can be quite boring. Omahyra Mota is a 25-year-old androgynous-looking Dominican model and actress. She has prominent tattoos, body piercings and a very edgy style that can be described as Gothic with a punk-chic twist. She made a name for herself in the fashion industry as a chic punk model! Mota has worked for designers such as Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Nina Ricci and Jean Paul Gaultier. The pictures were shown in Indie Magazine’s Fall 2008 issue, shot by Phillip Meuller

Something for rich tongues!

Posted in Art, Fashion, Photography by stylecouch on October 28, 2009

As I am not a fan of logo mania, I am asking myself how they will taste? However, I am sure there are some people outside who can easily taste something extraordinary out of it. Anyway the famous still life photographer Massimo Gammacurta really made a great job putting these Fashion Lollipops in perspective and the outcomes are these great photos!

DRINK WATER WITH STYLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

Posted in Uncategorized by stylecouch on October 27, 2009

I know I have mentioned earlier the rediculous consume of bottled water bu is it not ironic that in many parts of the world there is no clean drinking water for the population and in the parts where we have pure clean water we tend to drink water out of infected fashion plastic bottles??

“Everybody’s plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic.” This Andy Warhol quoted was made in the 60s in a time were people did not realize which kind of problems plastic would cause in the future!

There are several reasons not to drink water out of plastic bottles. A controversial chemical used in many plastic products may remain in the body longer than previously thought. Bisphenol-a or BPA is widely used in the making of the hard, clear and nearly unbreakable plastic. Scientists say these toxins are causing obesity, infertility and even worse.

Moreover plastic should seriously be considered a new source of chemical pollution in the ocean. A vast swath of the Pacific, twice the size of Texas, is full of a plastic stew that is entering the food chain.

Earthlust has made a cool alternative to the plastic bootles. Their bottles are handmade stainless steel bottles with limited designs! In the site you will also find a lot of interesting links about our plastic fantastic world!
